Monalisa Deb
Hi

We are planning a trip to France (Paris and few other places in France)in 2010 summer (preferably May).

we would be interested to arrange this trip on our own (not thru travel agent), if anyone of you can provide some information:
1) Reasonable accommodation at the center of Paris
2) Must-see places in Paris
2) Apart from paris, what are the places we should visit

Hi Mona,

I read about this place in the travel section of a major US newspaper. It sounded good and very affordable. However, it's on top of a hospital.

Check it out:

You can also check out Sally Peabody's website: http://www.yourgreatdaysinparis.com

Oh, my favorite tearoom in the world is Mariage Freres in the Maris. Their tea selection is widely thought of as the best in the world. It's totally amazing if you love tea as I do.

Have fun and be sure to report back.

I am in ROMANTIC PARIS this week, staying in a hotel a few minutes walk from the beautiful EIFFEL TOWER. HOW EXPENSIVE is your REASONABLE accommodation ?

We stayed at "ideal hotel" , at Amelie Zola, 15 minutes walk from Eiffel tower. This hotel had good reviews on Trip Advisor. It's a small hotel, but neat and clean. The price is very reasonable ours was 89 dollars per day for a double bed.
The metro station is alos near by so is the river.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mona,

The Notre Dame Cathedral, the Catacombes (lots of old dead things), Louvre muesum, getting a crepe from the sidewalk vendors, The Eiffel Tower, the Moulin Rouge (home of the can-can dancers, may not be suitable for chldren), cruise on the river Seine, the Champs-Elysees (shopping area), the Arc D' Triumph.

Just outside Paris is the Palace of Versailles, the "summer" home of the French Kings. After you see this place you will not wonder why the pesants had a revolt. Also the Mont Saint Michel is interesting.

Hope that gives you some ideas of what to see.

Best Regards

Been to paris in 2008 summer but that was a hurried trip with many other countries in europe so couldnt get to see in details.
Want to spend 6 days in Paris and few places outside.Louvre and another 1 or 2 meuseums, notre dame, Moulin rouge(wudnt like to miss it,have to manage my daughter :-)cruise on Siene (already had last time), Versailles..how abt bourdeux..is it worth visiting? am not too keen on shopping, must be very expensive:-)
also, we would like to include London and surrounding along with Paris if budget permits.

Hi, Mona
Sorry for the late response
We booked it through http://www.idealhotelparis.com/ you can also book it from Bookings.com

It was 89 euros, You can get some pictures in the first site.
We planned the trip alone , I don know how easy it will be Paris and London together,. We did Rome and Paris. You can buy online Eurail tickets (they have discounts too). The trains are overnite , sleeper class 240 Euros nearly and they leave from Paris Bercy station. Rome is never too cold and loads to see.Take your food with you , don buy from train management.you will save a lot of money that way. We stayed at Hotel Best Roma and got tickets from Trip Advisor. This hotel is also not at all pricy and near Manzoni station( metro which connects Vatican, Termini etc).Be careful with you luggage.Rome can be notorious. We went in Dec, 09. And get all the transportation details and Travel insurance with you on paper if you need a french visa. They are very strict.

Have a nice trip where ever you decide to go!

Best,

Priyanka

Oh Mona,

Ideal hotel doesn't have a full time restaurant. It has a breakfast corner 7 euros per head which closes at 10 a.m. every morning. And the elevator is quite small, you carry your luggage.Room Service is good though.

You don need full time restaurants inside the hotel, in fact you will come to loathe it if you do , there's yummy food all around you in Paris. Food doesn't get any better than in Paris.

Priyanka.

Hi Monalisa,

I found Hostel World site user friendly. I used that site in my travels to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and New England states in US.

Here is the link for Hostel World for London, England, rates are reasonable, if you like hostel kind of setting for two people:

Happy Travels!

Cheers,

A very useful site for hotels in Paris is SubwayHotels.com - it shows where hotels are in relation to Paris metro stations and compares hotel rates from lots of travel sites.
