Ernie Martin | | Lately, there is a buzz going around in business networking groups here in Las Vegas, about safety among Western women in India. This is in reference to sexual assault on a sporadic basis. So, is Indian government and police/security doing something to clamp down on sexual assaults? Some research has shown, tourism has declined by 35% among Western women. That's a big chunk.
It will be very difficult for Western women to regain credibility and confidence to travel to India. India is a beautiful country with vast culture and natural beauty. Many people are friendly and very hospitable and they go out of their way to help the foreigners. But, there are those "bad apples" within the society, who bring down the whole country's tourism and respect among common citizens. Myself, being a non-resident Indian in US, I feel sad.
